This is a wheel thrown planter with a hand made clay nest piece that was slipped and scored on to the lip to make it a hand & wheel project. The planter is approximately 5.25 inches tall by 5 inches wide, and it has a planter ring along the bottom of it and a hand made clay nest with three balls of clay that represent bird eggs, and it is slipped and scored on to the lip of the project. The surface of the planter, both inside and out is smooth, with slightly defined lines, on the inside as result of the finger marks made when it was thrown. The nest is glazed in metallic brown, and the eggs are white. The entire surface of the planter is glazed in off white, and there are hand painted leaves and patches of grass stained in green, and a candy apple red stained heart on the bottom of the inside of the planter. The contrast between the white back ground of the planter and the dark nest, green leaves, and red heart, make the paintings and the bird nest stand out a lot.

This is an extra choice project that goes along with my theme of Discovery,  and it is a small vase with a lip and no footed ring. It is extremely narrow, only 1 inch in diameter at the lip and 1.75 inches in diameter at the base, and it has a height of 4.5 inches. The vase has a wider base and very narrow top that ends in a outwardly flared lip. There are 8 curved lines that are carved into the outer side of the project that start from the base and move upward. The carved out lines in the outer surface of the project are glazed in off white, while the rest of the vase was painted in cobalt blue, so the thickness of the glaze is not uniform without the entire piece. The contrast between the white carved lives and the darker blue surface gives the project texture and emphasizes its increasingly narrowing width and hight.

This is a multi-piece project that is composed of two wheel thrown forms that were scored and slipped together into one continuous form. It is 6 inches tall by 4.25 inches wide at the lip of the project, which is its widest  place, and the base has a diameter of 3.25 inches is width. It has a slightly protruding belly and outwardly flared lip, and the base of the project flares slightly out. The entire surface of the project is smooth, besides the small ridge where the two glaze colors overlap. The top 4.5 inches and the interior of the project is glazed in shadow  green and splattered with black, however, the black didnt show up against the shadow green. The lower half and bottom of the piece is glazed in black, and the shadow green dripped and oozed slightly over the top of the black glaze, causing it to have a melting appearance. The transition between the two different glaze colors and textures emphasizes the projects shape, and adds texture to the surface of the projec

This is a cylinder that was thrown on the wheel and its shape was altered by pressing the sides in to make a curving lip. It is approximately 3.75 inches tall by 3.25 inches wide at the widest paralleling sides of the top of the project. The surfaces of the project are entirely smooth, however the walls of the project undulate so that, when looking at the top of the project, it has two inwardly curving sides, and two outwardly bulging sides. One half of the project is glazed in cobalt blue, the other half in celery green, and there is a narrow strip in between the two colors that is just covered in clear glaze. The effects of having the narrow strip of clear glazed wall make the project appear taller on its inwardly curving sides, and the contrast between the light and dark tones of the glazes on opposites sides give the project more textue

This is a choice bowl that was made on the wheel. It is 3.25 inches tall and has a base of 2.75 in in diameter and a top of 5.75 inches in width. The bowl has a V shape to it, with a narrower base and wider top; it has a foot ring on the bottom and a smooth surface texture both inside and out. The entire bowl is glazed in cobalt blue with 4 swirls painted in metallic brown on the outer-side of the project, and one on the bottom of the inside of the bowl. The brown swirls however did not turn out out very vibrantly, so the contrast between the solid shape of the bowl, emphasized by the cobalt blue, and the flowing movement of the brown swirls was slightly lost.

This is a choice project that is a small vase. The vase is taller than it is wide and is a mere 4 by 2 inches is dimension. The vase has a small base, only ___ in in diameter, and the lip of the vase is about the same size, and it has a bit of a "kite" shape in that it has a wider middle that its top or bottom. The texture of the surface of the project, both inside and out, is smooth. The interior and the top half of the project is glazed in cobalt blue, and the bottom half is glazed in an off-white color. The transition between the light and dark colors in the glaze emphasize the dimensions of the vase in that it marks the widest part of the project where the widening affect from the bottom up meets the narrowing section growing towards the lip.

This is a lidded project that was thrown on the wheel, the bottom is a vase and the top a small lid with a knob on the top to grasp. The bottom vase is approximately 3.5 in tall by 3 in wide, and the lid has a diameter of 2.5 in. The bottom half of the vase is thicker than the top, it has a small outwardly curved lip at the top and a footed ring on the bottom. The surface of the vase, both interior and exterior is smooth. The top side of the lid is entirely glazed in cobalt blue, and the vase its self has two "circular dip marks" paralleling each other on its outer surface that are also cobalt blue, then the entire project in covered in a clear glaze. The color of the lid and the paralleling "dip marks" of the cobalt glaze on the vase give the entire project a sense of unity between the vase and its lid.

This is a plate that was thrown on the wheel. It has a diameter of about 8.25 inches and a height of approximately 0.25 inches. It has no foot ring, and a off centered sloping lip, but the interior and underside of the entire project has a smooth texture. The plate was glazed in dark green all over, but there were areas where wax was painted on in designs and it left striped lines along the base of the plate and a non-glazed swirl in the center of the interior of the plate.

This is a petite little plate that was made on the wheel. It is approximately 6.25 inches in width and barely 0.75 inches in height. The plate has a smooth surface all over, and it has a thickly balled lip around the edge and a bit of an indent around the outer edge of the interior of the plate's surface. It also has a footed ring on the bottom. The entire plate is glazed in a dark green glassy glaze that pooled in the base of the plate and turned out looking more speckled-blue rather than dark green once it came out of the kiln.

Some ceramicists create multiple ceramic projects with the intention of making the multiple projects related in some manner, and some of the techniques that ceramicists might use to emphasis this relation is my using similar glaze colors and patterns, as well as similar shapes and forms. These are three individual projects that share faintly similar shapes and glazes, and these similarities are intended to illustrate the connection between the three different wheel projects. Each project is a wheel thrown bowl/vase pot with a footed rings and lips. The first bowl is 6.25 inches wide by 3 inches tall, the second one is 5.2 inches wide by 3.2 inches tall, and the third is 5.2 inches wide by 4.2 inches tall. In all of the projects the walls are uniformly thick and smooth, having narrower bases and wider tops, each project also has a lip and slightly bubbled or convexly curved walls. Projects 2 and 3 have gently outward flaring lips, where as bowl 1 has a fairly flat lip. All three of the projects are entirely covered in a matte turquoise glaze that turns out more green than turquoise or blue after the kiln. The identical glaze color and pattern, as well as the fairly similar shapes/forms, of the three individual projects clearly demonstrates the intended relation between the three pieces based on the creator's opinion.
